Futura Coffee Roasters is extremely excited to introduce our new single origin category: Inspire Single Origin- Exotic Select, where we will share exotic varieties and experimental processing techniques that will engage your palate in new and exciting ways. For our first Exotic Select release, we chose a truly exceptional Geisha variety coffee sourced from trusted producers in the Boquete region of Panama that Creativa Coffee District has forged impactful relationships with. Creativa is a sibling company to Futura in Panama formed with the goal of blending the art and science of coffee processing using their ground breaking processing methods and innovative wet mill facilities. Their focus is also on forging relationships with like-minded coffee producers from the majestic and mysterious coffee growing regions surrounding the Barú Volcano in Boquete. These coffee producers are dedicated to the hard work and craft of growing coffee and have a deep sense of pride in cultivating the Geisha variety. We wanted to highlight these innovative processing methods Creativa employs with the incredible tradition of Geisha cultivation in Panama. The hard work behind this coffee will be evident as soon as you experience the aromatics wafting through the air and take the first sip. This coffee was processed using Creativa Coffee Districts Dynamic Cherry method, a very unique anaerobic fermentation process. After meticulously harvesting only the ripest coffee cherries(all , the farmers deliver their yield to the Creativa mill, where fermentation magic, art and science can begin. The coffee, with its fruit still fully intact, is placed into large tanks that will hold the coffee for 72 to 96 hours. These tanks are then fitted with air traps that allow gasses that are generated during the fermentation to escape, but do not allow oxygen to enter into the tank. This is vital to the development and growth of yeasts and lactic acid that have been introduced into the environment. After the coffee has been fermented, it is then slowly dried on raised beds in the warm tropical sun of Panama under the watchful eye of the experts at Creativa. This method requires meticulous effort and attention to detail with the end result enhancing the red fruit qualities, silky body and malic acidity that is highlighted in this coffee. Exploding onto the specialty coffee scene in the early to mid 2000’s, Geisha coffee is revered for its distinct cup profile, usually marked by jasmine-like florals, vibrant acidity, and delicate sweetness. Originally discovered in Ethiopia and later cultivated in Panama, this variety gained worldwide recognition after redefining specialty coffee standards. Its unique genetic lineage, combined with precise cultivation and processing, results in a coffee that is both elegant and expressive, making it a favorite among coffee connoisseurs and competition judges alike.
