  • Ferney Macias (Colombia) - Ferney Macias grows coffee in the hills of Pital, Huila, in the small community of Santa Rosa, where he learned the work from his parents. Coffee has always been part of his life, and today he carries that legacy forward on his 17-hectare farm, La Ceja, sitting between 1750 and 1840 meters above sea level. It’s a place where tradition runs deep, but Ferney is also constantly pushing for improvement—both in the quality of his coffee and the health of the land it grows on.  Hes part of a program that turns agricultural waste into biochar, a regenerative soil amendment that helps improve fertility and long-term resilience. On the processing side, Ferney experiments with extended fermentations—like a 100-hour bag fermentation—before slowly drying the coffee for about 20 days in raised drying beds. It’s careful, time-intensive work, and it shows in the final cup. Just as importantly, Ferney’s farm provides steady work in his community, something he takes pride in as much as the coffee itself.

  • Fanny Velandia (Colombia) – Fanny Velandia and her family moved to the small town of Cachipay, Colombia, nearly a decade ago, where they began managing a small coffee farm as a way to support themselves and connect with their new community. Over time, that unexpected opportunity grew into a full-time passion. At their farm, San Bernardo—planted with Castillo, Colombia, and Pink Bourbon varieties—Fanny, her husband, and their children now oversee everything from cultivation to roasting, with a focus on quality and care at every step.  Farming at 1600 meters above sea level, the family tends their land with intention—composting, collecting rainwater, and growing a mix of fruit trees alongside coffee to keep the farm diverse and healthy. The result is a coffee that reflects years of steady work, thoughtful decisions, and a deep connection to place.

  • Francisco Morales (Guatemala)- For over 40 years, Francisco Morales and his wife have nurtured La Esperanza, a coffee farm tucked in the rolling hills of Cipresales, Huehuetenango. Their journey, like so many in the world of coffee, began with humble and challenging beginnings. But through relentless dedication, hard work, and a deep commitment to their craft, La Esperanza has flourished into a thriving business that not only supports the Morales family but also provides steady employment for the local community. The name "La Esperanza," which translates to "The Hope," speaks volumes about the Morales family's deep-rooted belief in coffee as a vehicle for growth, prosperity, and opportunity. Francisco’s passion for coffee is matched only by his eagerness to learn and grow. He’s always seeking new knowledge, whether it's through connecting with fellow farmers or experimenting with fresh techniques in his wet mill and drying areas. This spirit of curiosity and continuous improvement has earned Francisco recognition in the coffee world, including several prizes at the prestigious Huehuetenango Highland competitions. Always striving to elevate quality, this year, Francisco introduced shade nets during the drying process. This innovation helps control the drying rate, enhancing the flavors of his coffee and extending its shelf life. Working with Francisco and the Morales family is a privilege. Their dedication, paired with their passion for innovation, shines through in every cup of La Esperanza coffee.

In addition, 3% of Futura’s sales are dedicated to supporting regenerative agriculture projects in Colombia through our sister brand, Biodiversal.
